Can an air purifier be repaired if the UV bulb stops working?

Yes—most UV air purifiers can be repaired by replacing the UV bulb. The usual cause is a burned‑out lamp; less often the ballast (power module), wiring connection, or a door safety switch is at fault. If a new bulb doesn’t restore operation, a technician should test the ballast and interlock rather than cycling the unit repeatedly. A UV lamp is a consumable part, and a lamp that still glows can be too weak to sanitize effectively, so brightness alone isn’t a good health check. Our technicians who work in the Olivia area service UV air purifiers and can verify the lamp circuit and controls.

Call a pro if you notice:

  • Indicator shows “replace lamp” even after a new bulb
  • Breaker trips, burning smell, or abnormal heat from the housing
  • Corroded socket, cracked quartz sleeve, or water intrusion

Always shut off power before opening the unit to prevent UV exposure or electrical shock.
